Rockmybaby® allows our home-based educators to set their own hourly rates. This typically ranges from $5 to $9 per child per hour, depending on region and level of education of the home-based educator.
Q. Can I choose just to be a nanny or home-based educator, and not a babysitter?
A. Yes, of course. However, all candidates must register on our website and can then opt-in to receiving SMS and/or email alerts as to new nanny listings and babysitting bookings. Babysitting often proves a great way for our nannies or home-based educators to supplement their income and the beauty of it is you can pick and choose what you pick up based on your other commitments.
Q. How long will it take before I can accept babysitting jobs or apply for nanny roles?

You will need to have completed our recruitment process, including a Skype/FaceTime/face-to-face interview, provided required paperwork, and we would need to have completed two positive child-related references, as well received approved police results in order to approve you to accept babysitting bookings. In some cases, you can apply for nanny roles prior to completion of the above, but you would need to be in the process of completing these requirements. Police checks can take a few days or several weeks to process, dependent on the backlog at the Police Vetting Service.
Q. Can I register in more than one area at a time?
A. No – once you register in a specific area and input your contact details, you will receive notifications of nanny jobs and babysitting bookings in that area. If you do meet, for security reasons, please ensure you arrange to meet in a public place and inform a family member/friend of your intentions. For your own security, please do not put any personal information such as your mobile phone number or email address. Remember your audience and consider what you could include that will cause the family to think, “Fabulous! She sounds perfect!”
Q. Am I able to charge a higher hourly rate?
A. No, babysitting rates are fixed and are region dependent. Regional rates are listed on the website fees page, and under no circumstances are you to negotiate these. Nanny rates are either listed in the job notes on our website or are negotiable between you and the family based on nanny experience and/or education.
Q. Will I have financial support for travel to/from a babysitting or nanny role?
A. If you are required to use your own personal car during your babysitting placement, then you can charge a fuel cost. Any money offered for travel to and from a babysitting job would be listed in the job advertisement. This is typically only the case when the booking is for a rural or remote location.

If we find that you have accepted private bookings with clients, we will suspend your registration with Rockmybaby® and you will no longer be able to pick up bookings with us. We have strict processes in place for your safety.

If you use Hotmail or Yahoo, you will need to manually email your Curriculum Vitae (CV) along with the Job ID number, ensuring you have the correct office email. You will need to attach your current child-related CV each time you apply for a nanny job, making sure your CV does not have any personal contact information (remove mobile and home phone numbers, street number, date/month of your birth date). This is for security reasons – as we forward your CV directly on to clients.
Q. What should I include in my child-related CV?
A. Please include a personal statement outlining your key attributes and qualities, as well as a brief personal philosophy of care, and the nature of role you are looking for. List the duration of all child-related roles, ages of children you cared for, and the basic duties involved. A family appropriate picture is also a nice touch. Be mindful of the presentation of your CV - make sure it looks professional and there are no spelling mistakes, grammatical errors. Your CV is your advertising tool to the family, the client selects which applicants they want to meet based on the information in, and presentation of your CV, so it is important that you represent yourself in the best possible way.
Q. Who pays for my tax when I am a nanny?
A. Rockmybaby® does not employ you. You will be either a private contractor to the family, or an employee of the family, in which case the family will be responsible for your ACC, KiwiSaver, and tax obligations. As a private contractor to the family you will be responsible for your own tax obligations. We strongly recommend you contact the Inland Revenue Department to clarify your tax obligations.
